Department of Commerce Presents The Daly Mansion Preservation Trust with a
$50,000 Tourism “Bed Tax” Grant
Helena, MT — May 29, 2002 — Montana Department of Commerce Director Mark Simonich
will award a $50,000 Tourism Infrastructure Investment Program (TIIP)
grant check to the Daly Mansion Preservation Trust Board of Directors
on Monday, June 3 at 6:15 p.m. The presentation is part of a 5:30 pm – 7:30
pm reception during the Montana Tourism Advisory Council’s two-day meeting
in Hamilton. The Commerce Department’s
TIIP grant funds are administered by Travel Montana. The Daly Mansion is located at 251 Eastside Highway, about one mile north of Hamilton (Hwy 269).
The
$50,000 TIIP grant is part of a $1.1 million restoration plan for the
Daly Mansion. The first phase of the restoration
program involves roof repair and restoration. This work should begin
in July 2002 and be complete in the Fall. The
second phase of the program involves restoration of the mansion’s interior
including electrical service, heating system, climate control, plumbing
and security. Funding for the project is provided by foundations, businesses,
donations, special event income and government appropriations and grants.
Final completion of the two-phase project is anticipated in 2004.
The Daly Mansion’s TIIP Grant was one of five grants totaling $150,000 awarded by the Commerce
Department’s Travel Montana program in the
2000 cycle. Funds for the annual
TIIP grants come from revenues provided by the state’s 4 percent accommodation
or tourism “bed tax.” The “bed tax” is assessed on the lodging price
of all accommodations across Montana, including campgrounds. TIIP grants are awarded through a competitive application
process and require a $1 local match for every $2 provided by the grant
program. A full list of TIIP Grant Awards is attached.
